School History

Moroto high school is a post independent government school that was started in 1965 under an Anglican leaning. It is about 700 meters east wards from Moroto city Centre. It was the first secondary school established in Karamoja Sub-Region and it was called Moroto secondary school.

The first head teacher was Rev. John Butler from the United Kingdom (1965-1970). To date, 16 head teachers have been posted to this school by the ministry of education and sports. The current Headteacher is Mr. SABILA ERIC FRED.

The school started as an “O” level Boys’ boarding School up to 1976 when a few girls joined.

In 1984, HSC section started and in 1992 the parents erected a dormitory block for girls, followed by other dormitories later on. Today it is a fully fledged boarding mixed boys and girls school.

Moroto high school has greatly contributed to human resource development serving in Uganda and beyond its frontiers. In Kenya for instance, it has produced a number of Ministers and Senators who are the old students. Prominent among the old students of this school include; Dr. Robert Limlim of OPM, Dr. Johnson Ngorok, Hon: David Pulkol, Hon: Peter Lokeris, some Members of Parliament, Chief Administrative officers, public servants among others.

Initially, the school’s enrollments were 400 boys. Today, it has a student population of 1,300.
